Log Home Builder's Association Announces Classes for the Owner-Builder Who Wants to Build Log Homes

Seattle, WA November 30, 2004 –- The Log Home Builder's Association of North America announces two new classes for owner-builders who want to build log homes and log cabins from scratch. The two-day classes will be held January 15th and 16th and January 19th and 20th, 2005. Each class includes all of the information an owner-builder would need to know to build log homes from scratch (without a log home kit). Registration is available on the association's web site at http://www.loghomebuilders.org/.

The class is taught at the association's ranch near Seattle, Washington in a nearly 7,000 square foot log home. The same log home was used in the filming of the television series "Northern Exposure" (as the home of retired astronaut Maurice Minnifield, played by actor Barry Corbin).

"It is amazing what you can learn in just two days," said Rebecca Fernandez, a student who attended the class last winter with her husband Mark. "We are currently building our log home and it's hard to believe how easy it is. If we can do it, anyone can." Rebecca and Mark recently bought land in North Carolina and began building their log home. "We bought the land with owner financing and only $1500 down, and we're paying for the house as we go," added Mark. "So when it's finished we won't have any mortgage at all."

In addition to teaching the craft of log home building, The Log Home Builder's Association of North America shows students how to use pioneering techniques to build their home from scratch without a log home kit. Many of the association's members have built their log homes without a mortgage. "You don't need a crane to build a log home," said Steve White, one of the association's instructors. "The pioneers came up with ingenious techniques for lifting logs that work great for today's log homes."

"We also reveal common mistakes and shortcuts that many log home kit builders use to save time and money," added Ellsworth, another association instructor. "Anyone considering buying a log home kit should know about these mistakes in order to buy the best log home for the least amount of money."

The two-day class is offered periodically throughout the year to students who fly in from around the world to learn the craft of building their own log home. The cost of the class is included in the association's lifetime membership fee of $495.

To sign up for a class or to get more information about log home building, visit the association's web site at
