KB Home Appearance on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” Culminates with Unprecedented Gifts

LOS ANGELES, CA December 15, 2004 -- KB Home (NYSE: KBH) delivered the keys to a brand new home and a new life to the Broadbent family on the December 12 episode of ABC’s hit show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” Millions of viewers tuned in to the episode detailing the complete tear-down and rebuilding of a home in Las Vegas within the show’s fast track timeline.

More information on KB Home’s participation in ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” can be found at:
http://www.kbhome.com/extreme/.

The show took an unexpected turn when KB Home Chairman and CEO Bruce Karatz stepped forward to hand the deserving family the keys to their beautiful new amenity-filled home, astounding everyone by telling single mother Patricia Broadbent to tear up the mortgage on her home. To further ensure worry-free comfort for the family in their new home, Karatz added gifts for the family not featured in Sunday’s episode including:

· Paying all taxes associated with the new home
· Paying all of the utilities—forever
· Providing endless maintenance of the landscaping
· Providing endless pool maintenance
· Providing weekly housekeeping
· Creating three annual scholarships (one in honor of each daughter) to Camp Heartland, a beloved AIDS camp the girls attended in Minnesota

Additionally, during the build, KB Home had already landscaped all of the neighbors’ homes on the cul-de-sac in keeping with the company’s practice of building communities.

Patricia Broadbent, the mother of seven children, six of whom were adopted, is a former social worker who has spent her life giving to others. Her three daughters living with her, ages 12, 16 and 20, have all been living with HIV/AIDS since birth. Last year, Patricia was diagnosed with lung cancer and is now fighting for her own life as well.

More than 2,000 KB Home employees and trade partners worked around-the-clock for five days in early November demolishing the Broadbents 40-year-old, 1,350 square-foot cinder block house to build a 3,200 square-foot, two-story dream home.

“We never dreamed we’d have a KB Home,” exclaimed Hydeia Broadbent upon learning of her family’s builder.

Hydeia Broadbent, the oldest daughter at 20, contracted HIV from the drug-addicted birth mother who abandoned her and later was diagnosed with AIDS just prior to her fourth birthday. Without AIDS medication for children on the market at the time, Hydeia was not expected to survive past her fifth birthday.

Hydeia co-wrote a book with her mother, “You Get Past the Tears,” in 2002, a powerful story about growing up with AIDS. She later spoke at the 1996 Republican National Convention and received the prestigious Essence Award from
Essence magazine in 1999 for her decade-long efforts to raise awareness for AIDS through speaking engagements.
