Bargain Network Homes Offers Ideas on Finding a Real Estate Agent Who’s Right for You

Goleta, Calif.  August 19, 2005 -- Because buying a house is the single largest financial transaction most people will ever make, finding the right real estate agent is a critical step in the process. With so many real estate agents to choose from, the keys to finding the right one for you are doing research on the realtors and asking the right questions, according to Bargain Network Homes, a home buying and listing service provided by Bargain Network.

Members of
the Bargain Network Homes service can uncover hidden jewels -- properties that are available for much less than their market value. Among the 600,000 listings in the Bargain Network Homes databases are a wide array of homes, lots and distressed properties that are on the market as a result of foreclosures as well as through HUD and VA listings, bank auctions and other avenues. In fact, Bargain Network Homes has helped some members find properties for as little as $10,000.

Bargain Network Homes recommends following a few useful steps when looking for a real estate agent who's right for you:

-- Interview several candidates. You want to make sure you'll get along with your real estate agent, since you may be spending a lot of time together. You don't have to become best friends (although, if you're new to the area, an agent who's also a friend can help ease the social transition), but you need to respect one another.

-- Ask for recent references. Satisfied recent buyers are a better indicator of an agent's current abilities than satisfied buyers from five or ten years ago. By the same token, if an agent has no recent references, you might want to find someone with a better recent track record.

-- Ask about resources. A good real estate agent should have access to as many resources as possible, from for-sale-by-owner (FSBO) and for-sale-by-realtor® (FSBR) listings to multiple-listing-service (MLS) offerings. The more options available to your agent, the greater your chances are of finding the home you want.

-- Look for experience. Real estate agents who are familiar with the home-buying process in your chosen area are more likely to be able to smooth out any potential bumps in the road and to handle all of the details of the transaction efficiently. Experienced agents are also more likely to have developed the insights and contacts that can provide you with the inside scoop on the most desirable homes and neighborhoods in the town or region.

One last tip: Be sure to take as much time as you need to find an agent and a home. Unless you're facing a tight deadline that can't be changed, any decision affecting such a large purchase should be made with all due consideration. It is, after all, your money -- and your future -- at stake.
