Homebuyers' Essentials for Choosing and Using A Solicitor

Transferring the ownership of a property from one person to another is known as conveyancing. Legally anyone with the necessary time, knowledge and confidence can do it for themselves. However, this is probably the biggest financial investment most people ever make ----- so, they prefer to use a solicitor.

Lenders take few risks. If you are taking a mortgage, the lenders will insist on a lawyer acting for them, at a cost that is chargeable to you. Often they will accept that your solicitor do their work too, avoiding duplication and reducing your overall outlay.

How to Choose
Plump for experience. Look for a solicitor who specialises in conveyancing and is conveniently located. You will usually need to visit the solicitor's office at least once to conclude the transaction.

Neighbourhood. A local solicitor is likely to be aware of the history of the location you have selected and alert to any unusual resulting issues.

Phone a friend. It's hard to beat recommendations from people you trust. But check with an authoritative directory of solicitors and law firms like www.LawyerLocator.co.uk., to verify contact details and size of the firm.
