Rentacrate Relocates National Headquarters to Prospect Street, Waltham And Continues to think “Outside the Box”
Rentacrate, the company that's simplified the challenge of moving, recently held a gala Open House to show off their new, state-of-the-art corporate headquarters and warehouse facility located at 124 Prospect Street in Waltham. Several hundred clients, staff, officials such as David F. Gately, Mayor of Waltham, and well-wishers were on hand for the celebration.
Rentacrate's new corporate headquarters are in the former R. E. Burke building on Prospect Street. Rentacrate invested $900,000 to completely renovate and refurbish the 36,000 square foot building, which it purchased in August, 2001. The project was an affirmation of Rentacrate's commitment to the Waltham community.
Rentacrate first came to Waltham in December 1992, occupying a 3000 square foot space at 144 Moody Street. In 1996, the growing company moved to 39 Rumford Avenue, where they leased 7500 square feet. Only 18 months later, Rentacrate's phenomenal growth required that they double their space on Rumford Street. In fact, since 1994 Rentacrate has grown by over 40% per year and has opened offices in New Jersey, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Atlanta and Dallas. In the current local economic downturn, Rentacrate is a major success story.
So, with their choice of big-time cities, why did Rentacrate choose Waltham for their corporate headquarters?
"Waltham is perfectly located to service our large customer base in New England," says Karen Osborn, Rentacrate's Chief Operating Officer. "We deliver to every part of Massachusetts everyday, as well as to Rhode Island, southern New Hampshire and southern Maine. It's a great location for our employees, who find commuting to Waltham much easier than having to drive into Boston every day. We've also found Waltham to be very business-friendly. We wouldn't want to be anywhere else."
In 1991, Rentacrate introduced the Complete Moving System -- a set of specially designed reusable plastic crates, dollies and bins that are rented as an alternative to traditional, one-time-use, cardboard boxes. Rentacrate delivers these products to the customer before moving day, then picks them up at the new location after they're unpacked. It was a revolutionary idea, and moving day will never be the same. Rented plastic crates and dollies have made moving quicker, easier, less costly and more ecologically sound.
