Caperhouse.com launch island property portal.

Island-Living.co.uk is the UK's first web site to bring together island property for sale under the one online roof.

Set up with the aim of matching sellers to buyers, Island-Living.co.uk has been rolled out in the Western Isles and plans to expand over the coming weeks to embrace all the UK's offshore islands.

A Caperhouse.com development, Island-Living.co.uk is designed to tap into the growing trend to get out of urban areas and relocate to escape crime and pollution.

Alan Macleod, Web Development Director of Caperhouse.com, said: "Our research shows there is a big market for house sales on the UK's islands, but until now it has been difficult to track down suitable property. Island-Living.co.uk is designed to fill this gap in the market by aggregating homes for sale into one island property-focussed portal."

Island-Living.co.uk's target buying audience comprise of three main groups. Firstly, "hard-core" island hoppers wishing to buy a retirement or holiday home; and young families, influenced perhaps by such TV programmes as Castaway 2000 and Two Thousand Acres of Sky, who are seeking a better quality of environment in which to live.

The third group are the expanding numbers of people who are seeing technology freeing them from the daily grind of commuting.

Said Taylor Edgar, Business Development Director of Caperhouse.com: "The technology is available and currently widely in use to enable people to work remotely from a home office. Indeed, teleworking is becoming an increasingly important part of many island economies as evidenced in the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland. And there's little doubt the growth of teleworking will only accelerate in the years to come as increasing numbers become disillusioned with urban living, crime and pollution.

"Traffic congestion, rail strikes and commuting for between two and four hours per day holds little appeal when the telecommunications infrastructure is available to set up your office at home whether it be in Croydon, Stornoway, Kirkwall or Lerwick. With robust digital telecommunications and now two way broadband by satellite availability, islands throughout the UK are well placed to see inward migration in the years to come."
