The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) urges Americans to contribute to the newly established REALTORS® Housing Relief Fund. The fund was set up to assist the families of victims, including fire and emergency personnel, of the devastating terrorist attacks on the east coast by helping to pay housing costs.
Many of the families may own homes, yet lack mortgage insurance. These families could lose their homes without this assistance. NAR has made an initial $1,000,000 starting contribution. Eligible families will receive funds to assist with the costs of rent and mortgage payments. 100% of contributions will go directly to the families.
National Marketing Company, Hobbs Herder, has set up a special web page www.hobbsherder.com/calltoaction to assist REALTORS® with marketing pieces asking clients to contribute to NAR’s fund. Hobbs Herder was spurred to action by two of their clients: Joe Grady of Charlotte, North Carolina, and noted Tucson REALTOR®, Damion Alexander of Long Realty.
About the recent tragedy, Damion said “It is times like this that help us realize who we are and what we stand for. Being a father of one with another due within weeks, I cannot imagine losing my wife or my children, and possibly my home on top of it. I felt a driving force to do something to help the surviving victims of this tragedy- the families of those who lost their lives. As REALTORS®, we help people find a part of the ‘American Dream’. Today we have a chance to keep the dream alive. It is my goal to spread the word about this fund and I know that if we can all give a little, it can make all the difference.”
Anyone who would like to contribute to the Fund should call the REALTORS® Housing Relief Fund at 1-800-874-6500. Donations can also be made by accessing the Fund’s website at www.relief.realtor.org. Checks should be made out to “REALTORS® Housing Relief Fund” and mailed to the National Association of REALTORS® at 430 N. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611.
