After developing the first major online travel service and later CEO at ETA, a travel auction he founded with eBay founder and chairman Pierre Omidyar, it seems a far cry that Mark Hawkins would find himself selling residential real estate. Yet Hawkins sees a golden opportunity to enter the residential real estate industry as the national “Do Not Call Registry'' law is being debated.

“Regardless how the courts rule, over 50 million people, including myself, have registered to block their telephone numbers from telemarketers”, said Hawkins.

Instead of invasive telemarketing and door knocking, Hawkins' advertises and attracts potential clients to his website, HawkProperty.com.

Similar to the online travel services such as Orbitz or Expedia, Hawkins provides visitors access the Southern California MLS, the same database that was once considered proprietary to licensed agents. “Industry surveys show over 70% of homebuyers shop for a new home on the web, yet very few agents understand how to convert these shoppers into appointments”, said Hawkins.

Selling since he was 4 years old, Hawkins spent long hours selling the business ideas and raising capital for various startup companies while leading marketing and business development efforts during the dotcom boom.

Hawkins advocates referral networking and partner affiliations after successfully employing programs with the dotcoms he managed.     Although licensed in California, 80% of Hawkins' leads come from outside the Long Beach area in which he resides, so a vast referral network is in place. “During the past decade, I was taught to think global, not local”, Hawkins says.

Hawkins, a Long Beach California resident, is affiliated with RE/MAX and can be reached at 310.213.0904 or mark@hawkproperty.com.
