How Can a “Smart Home” Save You Money?

Implementing a home automation system and/or technology applications in your home can save you money. Not necessarily the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks about technology.

The most common technology application is a security system with fire and smoke detection. Security systems can save you money by reducing loss by theft or fire. Additionally, most insurance companies offer rate discounts to homeowners that have monitored alarms. A video surveillance system added to your security system can be an added deterrent to criminals.

By automating your home, you have a number of additional money saving options. When you incorporate your alarm into your “Smart Home” system, you can bring lights on when a zone is faulted, enhance the effectiveness of your surveillance system, and automate blinds and lights to give the appearance that someone is home. Additionally, flood detection devices can be integrated into your smart home. These devices detect water leaks and shut the water off at the source, therefore reducing the cost of water damage to your home.

Your automation system can save you money on your utilities and water. With the Home Technologies climate control feature, you can adjust the thermostat when the house is occupied, by time of day, or when someone arrives home. You can automate your sprinkler system to track soil moisture and to only water the lawn and flowerbeds when they are dry. You would never water too much, or water the lawn while it is raining. You can automate blinds to reduce the heat of the afternoon sun or automate lights to turn on when the room is occupied, or turn off 10 minutes after someone leaves the room.

Not only can an automation and/or technology system save you money in everyday life, it can actually make your home easier to sell and increase its value. Technology systems are rapidly becoming the standard in today’s home. Imagine five or ten years down the road, how much more commonplace these systems will have become. By installing a technology system now, you increase the probability of easily selling your home. And as your house appreciates in value, your technology system will add to your home’s value.

Home Technologies Corporation designs and installs systems specifically for your lifestyle. If you are looking for ways to reduce the costs of water, utilities, insurance, etc. give HTC a call to see what they can do for you.

Visit Home Technologies’ “Smart Showroom” at 8760 Union Centre Blvd. in West Chester for a demonstration and to try the system and applications for yourself. For more information, visit www.htchometech.com or call 513.645.4203.
