Daniel Gale Sells Historic Mansion: Closes One of North Shore’s Highest Residential Sales to Date

Knole,” the Old Westbury historic mansion described as “one of the finest homes in America,” was recently sold by Daniel Gale Real Estate, leading affiliate of Sotheby’s International Realty, for $11 million. It is one of the highest residential closings to date on Long Island’s North Shore.

Set on approximately 32 private acres of woodland, rolling lawns and French and Italian gardens, the palatial-style three-story, 10-bedroom, 12.5 bathroom home is considered a remarkable architectural testament to the opulence of America’s aristocracy at the turn of the century. Several movies have been filmed here, including “Arthur” and “Reversal of Fortune.”

“This is the only residential property I know of that has a three-story rotunda as the centerpiece of the home,” noted Barbara Candee, Daniel Gale Vice President and Director, Sotheby’s International Realty. “The property is equally unusual and has been maintained in excellent condition.”

According to Ms. Candee, the buyer of the property is a Long Islander who appreciates the property as “a very special piece of history. It was home to one family for almost 100 years, remaining majestic and pristine while a century of events has swirled about it.”

Daniel Gale, the largest non-franchised, independent broker on Long Island, consistently leads the nation in achieving one of the highest average sales prices in the country. It is a $1.7 billion organization with offices from Manhasset to Stony Brook, an award-winning Relocation Center, a New Homes Division and Corporate Headquarters. Daniel Gale is the exclusive North Shore affiliate for Sotheby’s International Realty and is a member of RELO, a network of the leading real estate companies in the world.
