This report presents the demographics of who buys home improvement services and supplies, utilities, telephone services, and insurance. Based on unpublished data collected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Expenditure Survey, the report examines how much Americans spend on home improvement and utilities by the demographics that count—age, income, household type, region of residence, race and Hispanic origin, education, occupation, and homeownership status. To round out the spending picture, it also presents “who-are-the-best-customers” analyses of the data, showing the demographics of household spending on 30 products and services ranging from paint and wallpaper to roofing and gutter supplies, from water and sewer to phone cards and cellular phone service.
