Custom Cabinetry Craftsman Finds Growth in Sustainable Wood Products

Tom Meszaros of Old World Cabinetry in Ashland, Virginia already has a reputation for creating beautiful custom cabinetry on time and on-budget. Soon he will also be known for his ability to combine beauty and sustainability by building kitchens from certified environmentally friendly wood products.

As someone who makes his living by working with wood Tom believes it is important to find products that can be grown and harvested in a responsible manner that are also beautiful.

“Mahogany is a wonderful wood”, he says, “but it grows very slowly and individual trees must be carefully harvested in order not do minimal damage to the surrounding rain forests. Woods like Lyptus can produce eight times the amount of lumber for fine furniture and custom cabinetry applications while helping preserve the natural beauty of the rain forest through responsible plantation management and harvest.”

“The various applications of bamboo that are now available are exciting because they fulfill a similar role in providing sustainable beauty because bamboo grows quickly thrives in a plantation environment. We are excited to be able to offer homeowners the opportunity to enhance their homes in an ecologically responsible manner.”

Recently Old World Cabinetry exhibited in a high-end home show and displayed a 400 square foot custom kitchen built of Madrone Burl and Lyptus as part of their effort to show consumers that an ecologically friendly solution to their remodeling needs can be as beautiful as one using more traditional woods. Show attendees were amazed by the quality of the wood and many of them have contacted Tom to learn more about filling their homes with the beauty of sustainable wood products.
