It is disturbing that after decades of building homes; the home building industry continues to condone the underlining causes of common new home defects. It would seem that after this much time the root cause of these problems would have been addressed and the defects, identified in this report, prevented.

Homeowners Against Deficient Dwellings, a national nonprofit consumer organization, has released a document titled "Common Defects in New Home Construction", compiled from input by homeowners, research of news articles, and review of complaints from various agencies.

"The purpose of this document is to encourage homebuilders and regulatory agencies such as the newly created Texas Residential Construction Commission to address the root causes of these common defects and find ways to prevent them." says John R. Cobarruvias President, HADD Texas.

The document also includes information on the extreme limitations of new home warranties and whether they provide protection for the most common defects identified. This document also includes contractual issues such as builders not finishing a home, or builders not honoring the warranties.

"We hope this document and our study on new home warranties "New Home Warranties, Protection or Deception?" will provide valuable information for the potential homebuyer and the building industry in order to prevent defects from happening." says Nancy Seats, President of HADD.
